WHAT DOES ANCORA MEAN?
Ancora is Latin for anchor. Why the significance of the anchor? An anchor provides a safe harbor for a boat while one rests at night or takes time to plan their next move or their next destination. An anchor that is set well in the seabed provides safety while the waves toss a boat.
Ancora aims to provide that sense of security and grounding when someone is feeling adrift.

HOW WE CAME TO BE
Ancora Clinics was established to enhance the availability of services for the San Juan Island community. Recognizing the need for a cottage clinic that provides holistic care, the founders envisioned a place in San Juan County that addresses the interconnected systems of body, mind, and spirit, supporting balanced health and overall well-being.
Identifying Community Needs
With backgrounds in healthcare, the founders observed a need for expanded mental health and women’s health resources within the community. As nurses and social workers, they are trained to tackle complex challenges and search for solutions—even when resources are limited. This awareness led to the decision to create Ancora Clinics as an essential resource to help fill these gaps.
Our Services
Ancora Clinics delivers comprehensive primary care services for individuals of all ages, complemented by specialized menopause care for women, thereby addressing a distinctive healthcare need within the islands. Many women have experienced limited access to effective treatments during this transition, underscoring the importance of our comprehensive approach. Our offerings extend beyond hormonal replacement therapy to include gynecologic examinations, simple biopsies, colposcopies, and referrals to advanced services when necessary. In addition, the clinic offers mental health therapy with a primary objective of expanding access to mental health services within the community. The team at Ancora Clinics is equipped with the expertise required to support individuals through these experiences.

In-office visits are now available at 530 Spring Street Friday Harbor, WA 98250. Telehealth visits are also available for ease of access to our services.
