WHAT DOES ANCORA MEAN?
Ancora is Latin for anchor. Why the significance of the anchor? An anchor provides a safe harbor for a boat while one rests at night or takes time to plan their next move or their next destination. An anchor that is set well in the seabed provides safety while the waves toss a boat.
Ancora aims to provide that sense of security and grounding when someone is feeling adrift.

HOW WE CAME TO BE
Ancora Clinics was created to fill a need within the community on San Juan Island. The founders have experience in healthcare and it became clear that the community could benefit from additional behavioral health services. As social workers we are trained to find solutions to some of the most challenging situations and problems. We are used to looking for resources even when they are scarce.
Over many cups of coffee and meetings over the kitchen table, it was decided to create a new resource for the island. Ancora Clinics will provide therapy and social work services with the goal of expanding behavioral health services in the community.
The need for mental health services is great at this time; the impact of the pandemic and the turmoil in the world is impacting people’s mental health and they are suffering.
At Ancora Clinics we have the knowledge to help people cope with the stressors they are experiencing and have a strong desire to help create positive change in a person’s life and within our island community

In-office visits are now available at 530 Spring Street Friday Harbor, WA 98250. Telehealth visits are also available for ease of access to our services.
